Description

Festive red, white, and blue cereal treats with gooey marshmallows and crispy rice cereal make the perfect patriotic dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup butter, divided
  • 15 cups mini marshmallows
  • 12 cups crispy rice cereal, divided
  • 1½ teaspoons clear vanilla extract, divided
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper and spray lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Melt ¼ cup butter over medium-low heat and stir in 5 cups marshmallows until almost melted.
  3. Add ½ teaspoon vanilla and red food coloring, then stir until evenly colored.
  4. Remove from heat and mix in 4 cups crispy rice cereal.
  5. Press the red mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Repeat the process without food coloring for the white layer and spread over the red layer.
  7. Repeat again with blue food coloring for the final layer.
  8. Allow the treats to cool completely for about 1 hour.
  9. Remove from the pan and cut into star shapes using a cookie cutter.
  10. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  1. Work quickly because marshmallows firm up fast once removed from heat.
  2. Spray utensils and cookie cutters with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Store at room temperature for 2 to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  4. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
