Description

Authentic Pico de Gallo is a fresh Mexican salsa made with tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and chili pepper. It comes together in 15 minutes and works well as a dip for chips or a topping for tacos, fajitas, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Roma tomatoes, deseeded and diced
  • 2/3 cup white onion, finely diced
  • 1 bunch cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 serrano pepper or jalapeño, finely chopped
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and prep all ingredients.
  2. Dice the Roma tomatoes and remove most of the seeds.
  3. Finely dice the white onion.
  4. Finely chop the cilantro.
  5. Finely chop the serrano pepper or jalapeño.
  6. Add the tomatoes, onion, cilantro, pepper, lime juice, and salt to a bowl.
  7. Stir everything together until evenly combined.
  8. Let the pico de gallo rest for 15 minutes if desired so the flavors meld.
  9. Serve with tortilla chips or spoon over tacos, fajitas, and other dishes.

Notes

  1. Make it a few hours ahead for a stronger flavor.
  2. Stir the salsa a few times before serving if it sits.
  3. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  4. The salsa will soften and release more liquid as it sits.
