Description

Soft, fluffy baked donuts coated in a buttery cinnamon sugar mixture. These easy homemade donuts bake in 12 minutes and make a cozy breakfast, brunch, or dessert treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk, whole milk or almond milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for coating
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for coating
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 12-cavity donut pan with nonstick spray or butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag or spoon it into the donut pan, filling each cavity about three-quarters full.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched.
  7. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.
  8. Mix the coating sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  9. Brush the warm donuts with melted butter, then roll each donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  10. Serve warm or let cool completely before storing.

Notes

  1. Do not overfill the donut pan or the center holes may close as the donuts rise.
  2. Use room-temperature milk and eggs for a smoother batter and softer texture.
  3. Add a pinch of nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice to the coating for a warmer flavor.
  4. The batter can be mixed ahead and stored overnight in the refrigerator, though the best rise comes from baking it fresh.
