Description
A classic Basic Peach Cobbler made with fresh peaches, a buttery vanilla topping, and a lightly golden finish. This easy American dessert serves 8 and bakes in about 45 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar, depending on sweetness of peaches
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional substitute for self-rising flour: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
- Place the peeled and sliced peaches in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar over the peaches, adjusting the amount based on how sweet the peaches taste.
- Cream the softened butter and 1 cup sugar together until smooth.
- Stir in the self-rising flour, or use the all-purpose flour mixture if substituting.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix until well combined.
- Spoon the batter evenly over the peaches without pressing it down.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the top turns light brown and the peach juices bubble around the edges.
- Let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use ripe fresh peaches for the best flavor and texture.
- Use 1/4 cup sugar over very sweet peaches and closer to 1/2 cup for tart peaches.
- If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover the baking dish with foil near the end of baking.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of cream.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
