Description
Soft and fluffy oven-baked French beignets flavored with orange blossom water and finished with butter and sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 320 g all-purpose flour
- 14 g fresh yeast or 5–6 g active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk plus 2 tablespoons
- 20 g unsalted butter
- 50 g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons orange blossom water
- 1 pinch salt
- Melted butter for finishing
- Extra granulated sugar for coating
Instructions
- Warm the milk with butter and sugar until melted, then let cool slightly
- Place flour in a bowl, add yeast on one side and salt on the other
- Add the egg, milk mixture, and orange blossom water, then mix into a dough
- Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size
- Roll dough to about 1.5 cm thickness and cut into rounds
- Place on a lined baking sheet and let rest for 30 minutes
- Brush with milk and bake at 375°F for 9–12 minutes until lightly golden
- Brush warm beignets with melted butter and roll in sugar
Notes
- Keep yeast and salt separate during mixing
- Do not overheat the milk or it may affect yeast activity
- Bake just until lightly golden to keep the texture soft
