Description

Butterfly Snack Bags are a fun no-cook kids snack craft made with fruit, crunchy snacks, and string cheese. They are perfect for lunchboxes, parties, playdates, and spring celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup veggie straws, chips, baby carrots, or celery slices
  • 1 cup mini cheese cracker sandwiches or peanut butter cracker sandwiches
  • 4 sandwich bags
  • 4 pipe cleaners
  • 8 small jewels or candy eyes for decorating
  • 1 black permanent marker
  • Glue, as needed
  • Clear tape, as needed

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the strawberries and blueberries, then chop the strawberries into small pieces.
  2. Place one sandwich bag flat on the counter.
  3. Wrap one pipe cleaner around the center of the bag to divide it into two even sections.
  4. Twist the pipe cleaner a few times around the center, leaving both ends pointing upward like antennae.
  5. Gently curl the pipe cleaner ends.
  6. Open the bag and add fruit to one side.
  7. Add veggie straws, crackers, chips, or another snack to the other side.
  8. Close the sandwich bag firmly.
  9. Fold back the top flap of one string cheese wrapper and tape it down to create a rounded butterfly body.
  10. Glue two jewels to the outside of the string cheese wrapper for eyes.
  11. Draw a smile on the wrapper with a black permanent marker.
  12. Place the string cheese over the center of the filled bag.
  13. Use a long piece of clear tape to secure the string cheese body to the butterfly wings.
  14. Serve right away or refrigerate until ready to pack or serve.

Notes

  1. Keep glue on the outside of the wrapped string cheese only.
  2. Use an ice pack if packing these snack bags in a lunchbox.
  3. For younger children, draw eyes with marker instead of using small jewels.
  4. Dry fruit well before adding it to the bag to prevent soggy crackers.
  5. Swap in grapes, apples, oranges, pretzels, celery, carrots, or other favorite snacks.
