Flaky, buttery homemade scones laced with warm chai spices and topped with a maple chai glaze for the perfect tea-time bake.

- 12 tablespoons very cold unsalted butter, diced into cubes
- ½ cup very cold heavy cream
- 2 large eggs, divided
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling out scones
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon chai spice blend
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 heaping cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons chai spice blend
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- pinch of kosher salt
Instructions
- Dice the cold butter into cubes and chill in the freezer.
- Whisk heavy cream with 1 egg and 1 egg yolk; reserve egg white.
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, chai spice, and salt in a food processor.
- Add butter to dry mix and pulse until coarse crumbs form.
- Gradually add the chilled cream mixture and pulse until dough begins to form.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface, shape into a disc, wrap, and freeze for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough 1 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
- Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F for 20–22 minutes until golden brown.
- Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth.
- Dip cooled scones into glaze twice and let set before serving.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Freeze for up to 3 months; thaw at room temperature.
- Prepare dough in advance and bake fresh for guests for best results.
