Description

Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Orzo is a creamy, one-pan wonder that turns simple ingredients into a comforting weeknight dinner. Tender chicken, fresh broccoli, and nutty orzo pasta come together in a cheesy, velvety sauce—ready in just 30 minutes for a family-friendly meal with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • ½ medium onion, chopped (60 g)

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or thawed frozen)

  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 cup orzo pasta

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (rotisserie works)

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted and sizzling.

  • Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.

  • Stir in broccoli and cook for 2 minutes.

  • Add garlic, Italian seasoning, and orzo. Toast for 30 seconds to bring out flavor.

  • Pour in chicken broth, cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and bring to a gentle boil.

  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring often, until orzo is tender.

  • Add shredded chicken and stir until heated through.

  • Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until creamy.

  • Season with salt and pepper, let rest for 2–3 minutes, then serve hot.

Notes

Toasting the orzo adds extra depth of flavor.

Stir frequently to prevent sticking.

Sharp cheddar gives the boldest cheesy flavor—try Gouda or Monterey Jack for variation.

Swap broccoli for peas, spinach, or roasted peppers to customize.

For lighter sauce, use half-and-half or milk with extra cheese.
