Description

Classic chewy chocolate chip cookies with soft centers, golden edges, and rich flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

21/4 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 Tbsp vanilla extract

1 egg + 1 yolk, room temperature

23 cups mini or regular semisweet chocolate chips (or mix varieties)

Instructions

1. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

2. Cream the melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth.

3. Beat in vanilla, egg, and yolk until creamy.

4. Mix in dry ingredients in three batches until just blended.

5. Fold in chocolate chips by hand.

6. Roll 2 tablespoons of dough into tall balls; chill at least 2 hours or overnight.

7. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line baking sheets.

8. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on sheets.

9. Bake for 8 minutes or until edges are barely golden.

10. Cool on sheets for 10 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

Notes

Using mini chips gives more even chocolate distribution.

A 1/4 cup scoop makes larger cookies; add 2–4 minutes of bake time.

Chilling improves texture and flavor but unchilled dough still bakes well.
