Description
Crispy Chicken Fried Chicken made with tender breaded chicken breasts and finished with classic homemade country gravy. A comforting American dinner ready in just 30 minutes.

- 6–8 thin sliced chicken breasts
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- Oil for frying
- 1/4 cup reserved frying oil
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 325°F.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
- Dredge chicken in flour mixture, dip into buttermilk mixture, then dredge again in flour.
- Fry chicken 3–5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove chicken and drain on paper towels.
- Heat reserved frying oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in milk until gravy thickens.
- Season gravy with salt and pepper.
- Serve gravy over chicken.
Notes
- A deep fryer can be used instead of a skillet.
- Butter or bacon grease may replace frying oil for gravy.
- Thin-sliced chicken cooks more evenly.
- Adjust seasoning in flour and gravy to taste.
