Description

Chicken Parmesan Baked Spaghetti combines cheesy marinara-coated pasta with crispy chicken patties, mozzarella, and Parmesan for an affordable family casserole.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thin spaghetti
  • 2 jars marinara or pasta sauce, 24 ounces each
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 8 frozen breaded chicken patties
  • Salt, to taste, optional
  • Black pepper, to taste, optional
  • Garlic powder, to taste, optional
  • Italian seasoning, to taste, optional
  • Nonstick cooking spray or oil for the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions until al dente, then drain it thoroughly.
  3. Mix the spaghetti with about one and a half jars of marinara sauce and 2 cups of shredded mozzarella.
  4. Season the pasta with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning, if desired.
  5. Spread the spaghetti mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange the frozen chicken patties in a single layer over the spaghetti.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes to heat and crisp the chicken patties.
  8. Remove the dish from the oven and spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the patties.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup mozzarella and the grated Parmesan over the casserole.
  10. Bake for another 15 minutes, or until the sauce bubbles and the cheese melts and begins to brown.
  11. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  1. Cook the pasta only until al dente because it will continue cooking in the oven.
  2. Do not thaw the chicken patties before assembly.
  3. Add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, or crushed red pepper flakes to suit your taste.
  4. Replace part of the mozzarella mixed into the pasta with cheddar, Colby Jack, or processed cheese, if desired.
  5. To make chicken Parmesan sandwiches, omit the spaghetti and bake the patties with sauce and cheese using the same method.
  6. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
