Description

This easy Cinnamon Apple Cobbler features tender fresh apples baked with brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter beneath a soft, golden vanilla topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and evenly sliced
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and place a rack in the center.
  2. Toss the peeled, cored, and sliced apples with the brown sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Place the butter in a 2 1/2-quart baking dish and heat it in the oven for about 3 minutes, until melted.
  4. Carefully remove the dish, spread the apple mixture over the melted butter, and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Whisk the flour, granulated sugar, and baking powder in a mixing bowl.
  6. Add the milk and vanilla extract, then stir just until the batter looks smooth.
  7. Remove the apples from the oven and pour the batter evenly over the fruit without stirring.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the topping turns golden brown and the fruit juices bubble around the edges.
  9. Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  1. Use a 2 1/2-quart oval or similarly sized baking dish.
  2. If you use a smaller or deeper pan, allow extra baking time.
  3. A mixture of sweet and tart baking apples gives the filling balanced flavor.
  4. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
