Simple, festive, and irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients
-
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
-
2 large Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
-
50 g (¼ cup) brown sugar
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1 large egg + splash of water (for egg wash)
-
60 ml (¼ cup) caramel sauce
-
Flaky sea salt (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Roll out puff pastry to ¼-inch thick and cut into 6 rectangles.
-
Using a paring knife, lightly score a border around each rectangle (without cutting through).
-
Arrange apple slices neatly inside the scored borders.
-
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over apples.
-
Brush the borders of the pastry with egg wash.
-
Bake for 15–17 minutes, until puffed and golden.
-
Let cool slightly, drizzle with caramel sauce, and sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
Notes
Use tart apples like Granny Smith for balance, or swap with Honeycrisp/Fuji for sweeter results.
No caramel sauce? Melt soft caramels with a splash of cream.
Add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves with cinnamon for extra warmth.
Best eaten fresh, but can be stored and reheated in the oven to revive crispiness.
For mini bites, cut the pastry into smaller squares and top with one or two apple slices.
