Description

Flaky croissant-style bread baked in a loaf with rich butter layers and a soft interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix sugar, salt, and 1 cup flour in a bowl.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and yeast mixture and stir.
  4. Add remaining flour until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Knead briefly until soft, then rest dough for 40 minutes.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle and layer with butter.
  7. Fold, roll, and repeat to laminate the dough.
  8. Chill dough for 1 hour.
  9. Roll, fold again, then roll tightly into a loaf.
  10. Place in loaf pan, rise gently, brush with egg wash, and bake until golden.

Notes

  1. Always use salted butter for better flavor.
  2. Do not let dough rise in a warm place to prevent butter from melting.
