Description

Moist date nut bread loaded with sweet dates and crunchy pecans or walnuts. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, holidays, or dessert.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F and grease a 4 x 8-inch loaf pan.
  2. Place dates in a bowl, sprinkle with baking soda, and pour boiling water over them.
  3. Allow dates to cool completely and reserve the soaking liquid.
  4. Mix melted butter and sugar until combined.
  5. Add egg and mix until smooth.
  6. Strain date liquid into the batter and mix well.
  7. Add flour and mix until almost incorporated.
  8. Fold in dates and nuts.
  9. Transfer batter to prepared loaf pan.
  10. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
  12. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  1. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  2. Refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  3. Freeze tightly wrapped bread for up to 3 months.
  4. Use pecans or walnuts according to preference.
  5. For stronger date flavor, use an entire 8-ounce package of dates.
