Description

A rich and moist double chocolate banana bread made with ripe bananas, dark cocoa powder, sour cream, and milk chocolate chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 medium ripe bananas, mashed to about 1 cup
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and coat a 9-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Add the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to a large mixing bowl and beat until creamy and evenly combined.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the mashed bananas and sour cream, then mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt just until no dry streaks remain.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the batter and press them down gently.
  8. Bake for about 70 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool the loaf in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a cooling rack.
  10. Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  1. Use very ripe, heavily speckled bananas for the sweetest flavor and moistest texture.
  2. Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder gives the loaf a deep chocolate flavor and dark color.
  3. Baking time may vary between ceramic, glass, and metal loaf pans.
  4. If the top darkens too quickly, loosely cover the pan with foil during the final 15 minutes.
  5. Do not underbake the loaf because the center may sink while cooling.
  6. Store tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze individual slices for up to 3 months.
