Description

Fresh strawberries dipped in bright orange candy melts and decorated with piped carrot lines create a festive no-bake Easter treat. Serve them alone or place them over optional chocolate pudding and crushed cookie dirt cups.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large fresh strawberries with green leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups orange candy melts
  • 1 teaspoon refined coconut oil or vegetable shortening, optional
  • 1 large 5.9-ounce box instant chocolate pudding mix, optional
  • 3 cups cold milk, optional
  • 18 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed, optional

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries gently under cool water and dry every surface thoroughly, including beneath the leaves.
  2. Let the strawberries stand at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes so any remaining moisture evaporates.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. For optional dirt cups, whisk the instant chocolate pudding mix with 3 cups cold milk for 2 minutes and let it thicken for 5 minutes.
  5. Layer crushed chocolate cookies, prepared pudding, and more cookie crumbs in 12 small cups. Refrigerate until needed.
  6. Place the orange candy melts in a completely dry microwave-safe bowl.
  7. Microwave for 20 seconds, stir thoroughly, and repeat until the coating is nearly smooth.
  8. Stir until the remaining pieces melt. Add coconut oil or shortening in small amounts if the coating needs thinning.
  9. Hold each strawberry by its leafy top and dip it into the orange coating until covered almost to the leaves.
  10. Lift the strawberry slowly and let the excess coating drip into the bowl before placing it on parchment.
  11. Transfer the remaining coating to a piping bag or zip-top bag and snip a tiny opening.
  12. Pipe thin horizontal lines across each coated strawberry to create the carrot texture.
  13. Let the strawberries set at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate them for 10 to 20 minutes.
  14. Place one finished strawberry over each dirt cup shortly before serving, if using.

Notes

  1. Dry the strawberries completely before dipping because moisture can prevent the coating from sticking.
  2. Use only oil-based or powdered food coloring if coloring white chocolate.
  3. Do not overheat the candy melts or allow water to enter the bowl.
  4. Serve the coated strawberries the same day for the best texture.
  5. Store leftovers in a single layer in a paper-towel-lined airtight container for up to 24 hours.
  6. Keep the strawberry toppers separate from the pudding cups until shortly before serving.
