Description

French Onion Beef Casserole is a creamy, savory baked dinner made with ground beef, egg noodles, French onion dip, cream of mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 ounces dried egg noodles
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup, 10.75 ounces each
  • 1 jar French onion dip, 15 ounces
  • 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
  • Fresh chopped parsley, optional, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Cook the egg noodles in a large pot of water according to the package directions until just tender. Drain well.
  3. Meanwhile, cook and crumble the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until no pink remains.
  4. Season the beef with salt and black pepper, then drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  5. Add both cans of cream of mushroom soup and the French onion dip to the skillet with the beef. Stir until smooth and combined.
  6. Gently fold the cooked egg noodles into the beef mixture until the noodles are evenly coated.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  8. Sprinkle the crispy fried onions evenly over the top.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly.
  10. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  1. Cook the noodles just until tender so they do not become too soft after baking.
  2. Drain the beef well to keep the casserole creamy rather than greasy.
  3. Add 1 cup of shredded Swiss, mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar cheese for a cheesier version.
  4. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  5. Reheat with a splash of milk or broth if the casserole thickens after chilling.
