Description

Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Chicken Tacos are the ultimate weeknight indulgence—sweet, smoky, and irresistibly saucy. Tender chicken is seared to perfection, then tossed in a rich garlic butter and honey BBQ glaze before being tucked into warm tortillas with crisp lettuce, melted cheese, and a squeeze of lime. Ready in under 30 minutes, this quick and flavorful recipe transforms ordinary chicken tacos into something unforgettable.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional)

For the Garlic Butter Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • ⅓ cup BBQ sauce

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For Serving:

  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas

  • ½ cup shredded lettuce

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

  • ¼ cup diced red onion

  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  • Season the Chicken: Toss chicken with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder (optional), salt, and pepper. Marinate for 15–20 minutes if time allows.

  • Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken 5–6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (165°F internal temperature). Let rest, then slice or shred.

  • Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in honey, BBQ sauce, and lemon juice; simmer for 2 minutes until glossy.

  • Combine: Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in sauce.

  • Assemble: Warm tortillas, then layer lettuce, chicken, cheese, onion, and cilantro. Finish with a squeeze of lime and a drizzle of sauce.

Notes

Don’t overcook the garlic—it can turn bitter.

For more heat, add cayenne or your favorite hot sauce.

Use rotisserie chicken for an easy shortcut.

Warm tortillas in a skillet for structure and flavor.

The sauce also pairs beautifully with shrimp or tofu.
