Description
Hot Sloppy Joe Dip is a hearty, cheesy party dip made with seasoned ground beef, peppers, and tangy sauce, topped with melted Cheddar and served hot with baguette slices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds extra lean ground beef
- 2 green bell peppers, diced
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Cayenne pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
Instructions
- Place ground beef, bell pepper, onion, garlic, flour, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a heavy pot over medium-high heat.
- Cook and stir, breaking up the meat, until moisture evaporates and mixture is browned, about 15 minutes.
- Stir in chicken broth, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 45 minutes.
- Preheat broiler and position oven rack about 6 inches from heat source.
- Transfer mixture to an oven-proof pan and top with half the shredded Cheddar, gently pressing it into the dip.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and broil until browned and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
Notes
- You can substitute 2 cups water for the chicken broth.
- Finish in a 425°F oven instead of broiling if preferred.
- Serve directly from a warm pot on the stove for casual entertaining.
- Best served with toasted baguette slices.
