Description

Classic New Orleans Beignets made from scratch with light, airy fried dough and a generous powdered sugar finish.


Ingredients

  • Warm water
  • Granulated sugar
  • Active dry yeast
  • Egg
  • Evaporated milk
  • All-purpose flour
  • Unsalted butter
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Dissolve sugar in warm water and activate yeast until foamy.
  2. Mix in egg and evaporated milk until smooth.
  3. Add flour, butter, and salt to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead until elastic, then let rise until doubled.
  5. Roll dough out and cut into squares.
  6. Fry in hot oil until puffed and golden on both sides.
  7. Drain briefly and dust heavily with powdered sugar.
