Description

Old-fashioned peach cobbler with juicy peaches, warm spices, buttery batter, and a golden baked topping. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a classic homemade dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, for the peach filling
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, for the batter
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Butter or cooking spray, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Add the sliced peaches, 1 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg to a large mixing bowl. Stir until the peaches are evenly coated, then set aside.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Stir in the milk just until the batter comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish and tilt the dish gently to coat the bottom.
  6. Pour the batter over the melted butter, but do not stir.
  7. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter, but do not stir.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
  9. Let the cobbler cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  1. Use fresh ripe peaches for the best flavor, or thaw and drain frozen peaches before using.
  2. Do not stir the layers together after adding the batter and peaches to the baking dish.
  3. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of heavy cream.
  4. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
