Crispy baked Parmesan-coated chicken breasts served with a rich, buttery garlic cream sauce. This comforting main dish is easy enough for a weeknight dinner yet special enough for guests.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, for the sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, for the sauce
- Optional: chopped fresh parsley, extra Parmesan, or a pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Pat the chicken breasts dry and gently pound thicker areas if needed for even cooking.
- Combine the flour, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper in a shallow bowl.
- Press each chicken breast into the coating mixture until both sides are evenly covered. Repeat for a thicker crust if desired.
- Place the coated chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet with space between them.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- For a deeper golden crust, broil for 1 to 2 minutes while watching closely.
- While the chicken cooks, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Whisk in the heavy cream, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Let the chicken rest briefly, then spoon the warm creamy garlic sauce over the top and serve immediately.
Notes
- Pat the chicken dry before coating for better adhesion.
- Do not crowd the baking sheet.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to check for 165°F in the thickest part of the chicken.
- Keep the garlic sauce over moderate heat to prevent scorching or separation.
- Add the sauce immediately before serving to preserve the crisp Parmesan crust.
- Store leftover chicken and sauce separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
