Description
Paula Deen Peach Cobbler is a quick Southern dessert made with canned peaches, melted butter, self-rising flour, milk, and sugar. It bakes into a warm, syrupy cobbler with a golden buttery crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 can sliced peaches in heavy syrup, 28 ounces, not drained
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Place the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and put the dish in the oven until the butter melts.
- Whisk the self-rising flour and sugar together in a mixing bowl.
- Pour in the milk and whisk just until the batter turns smooth.
- Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven.
- Pour the batter over the melted butter without stirring.
- Spoon the peach slices evenly over the batter.
- Slowly pour the peach syrup over the top without stirring.
- Sprinkle with ground cinnamon, if desired.
- Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the cobbler turns golden brown and bubbles around the edges.
- Let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Do not stir the batter into the butter or peaches, because the layers create the classic cobbler texture.
- Use the peach syrup from the can for the best juicy filling.
- Begin checking the cobbler at 30 minutes, since oven times can vary.
- For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the batter.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
