Description

Peach turnovers with vanilla glaze are flaky, sweet, and easy to make with puff pastry sheets and peach pie filling. They bake until golden, then get finished with a smooth vanilla glaze for a quick American dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box puff pastry, 2 sheets total, thawed
  • 21 ounces peach pie filling, canned or homemade
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Prepare 2 baking sheets with nonstick spray or parchment paper.
  3. Thaw the puff pastry according to package directions, about 30 minutes.
  4. Carefully unfold the puff pastry sheets and press the fold lines together to seal them.
  5. Cut each pastry sheet into 4 equal squares, making 8 squares total.
  6. Place 1 large tablespoon of peach pie filling in the center of each pastry square.
  7. In a small bowl, beat the egg white with 1 teaspoon water.
  8. Brush the edges of one pastry square with the egg white mixture.
  9. Fold one corner over the filling to meet the opposite corner and form a triangle.
  10. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges.
  11. Brush the top of the turnover with the egg white mixture.
  12. Repeat with the remaining pastry squares and filling.
  13. Place 4 turnovers on each prepared baking sheet.
  14. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until puffed and light golden brown.
  15. Transfer the turnovers to a wire rack to cool.
  16. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until smooth and pourable.
  17. Drizzle the vanilla glaze over the cooled turnovers.
  18. Let the glaze firm slightly before serving.

Notes

  1. Thawing time for frozen puff pastry is not included in the prep time.
  2. For best texture, serve the turnovers the day they are baked.
  3. Use only a large tablespoon of filling per turnover to help prevent leaking.
  4. Add a little more milk to the glaze if it feels too thick to drizzle.
  5. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for up to 3 days.
