Description

Philly Cheesesteak Mac and Cheese is the ultimate mash-up of two comfort food classics—savory cheesesteak flavors and creamy macaroni. Tender lean beef, caramelized peppers, onions, and gooey cheese blend with pasta for a high-protein dinner that’s hearty yet balanced. Ready in 30 minutes and made in one skillet, it’s perfect for busy nights when you crave something indulgent but wholesome.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 240 g dry macaroni (whole wheat or chickpea pasta optional)

  • 800 g lean ground beef (or turkey/chickpeas for alternatives)

  • 20 g butter (or olive oil)

  • 1 tbsp (15 g) minced garlic

  • 100 g chopped white onion

  • 225 g bell peppers (75 g each red, green, yellow)

  • Salt, black pepper, paprika, and chili flakes, to taste

  • 140 g light cream cheese

  • 50 g shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 34 light cheese slices (any good melting cheese)

  • 125 ml reserved pasta cooking water

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook pasta: Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente (8–10 min). Reserve 125 ml pasta water, drain.

  • Sauté veggies: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, and peppers; cook 4–5 min until softened and lightly caramelized.

  • Cook beef: Add ground beef, breaking it apart. Brown for 5–7 min. Drain excess fat if necessary. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and chili flakes.

  • Make sauce: Reduce heat. Stir in cream cheese, mozzarella, and cheese slices. Melt into a smooth sauce.

  • Combine: Add drained pasta and reserved water. Stir to coat evenly. Simmer 1–2 min, adding more water if needed for creaminess.

  • Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot.

Notes

For extra veggies, add mushrooms or spinach during the sauté step.

Turkey or chickpeas are great swaps for a lighter or vegetarian option.

Toast paprika briefly in the skillet for deeper flavor.

To reheat, add a splash of milk or water and warm gently.

Freeze leftovers up to 2 months for quick future meals.
