Ingredients
-
1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) yellow cake mix
-
1 can (15 oz / 425 g) pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix)
-
1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk (fat-free optional)
-
1 pkg (8 oz / 226 g) Cool Whip, thawed
-
1/2 bag (4 oz / 113 g) Heath bits
-
Caramel sundae sauce, to taste
Instructions
-
Bake the Cake – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan (or two for layers). Mix cake mix and pumpkin puree until smooth. Spread into pan(s) and bake 23–28 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
-
Poke and Soak – Cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes all over with the handle of a wooden spoon. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over cake, letting it seep into the holes. Refrigerate 30 minutes.
-
Layer It Up – If baking in two pans, place the first layer on a platter and spread with half the Cool Whip. Stack the second layer on top and spread with remaining Cool Whip. If using one pan, spread all the Cool Whip over the cooled cake.
-
Finish with Flair – Sprinkle generously with Heath bits and drizzle with caramel sauce.
-
Chill & Serve – Refrigerate for 3–4 hours or overnight before slicing.
Notes
For richer topping, use homemade whipped cream.
Tastes even better the next day after flavors meld.
Swap Heath bits for toffee pieces, crushed gingersnaps, or chopped pecans.
Salted caramel helps balance the sweetness.
