Description

A colorful no-cook classroom snack made with strawberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple, green grapes, and purple grapes. Each individual bag creates an easy rainbow-themed serving for children.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds strawberries, hulled and cut into small pieces
  • 5 mandarin oranges, peeled and separated into segments
  • 1 medium pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into bite-size chunks
  • pounds seedless green grapes, quartered lengthwise when needed
  • pounds seedless purple grapes, quartered lengthwise when needed
  • 25 snack-size resealable bags or small lidded cups

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries and grapes thoroughly under cool running water.
  2. Drain the fruit well, spread it on clean towels, and pat every piece dry.
  3. Remove the strawberry tops and cut large berries into halves or quarters.
  4. Peel the mandarins, separate the segments, and remove loose white pith.
  5. Peel and core the pineapple, then cut it into bite-size chunks.
  6. Remove the grapes from their stems and discard soft or damaged grapes.
  7. Quarter grapes lengthwise for younger children or when required by school safety policies.
  8. Place each type of fruit into a separate bowl.
  9. Stand the snack bags upright in shallow containers.
  10. Add three or four strawberry pieces to each bag.
  11. Add three or four mandarin segments to each bag.
  12. Add three or four pineapple chunks to each bag.
  13. Add three or four green grape pieces to each bag.
  14. Add three or four purple grape pieces to each bag.
  15. Press excess air gently from each bag and seal it completely.
  16. Arrange the finished bags in a single layer and refrigerate until serving.

Notes

  1. Dry all fruit thoroughly before packing to prevent excess moisture.
  2. Use firm, ripe fruit for the best color, flavor, and texture.
  3. Keep the prepared bags refrigerated and serve them within 24 hours.
  4. Substitute raspberries, cantaloupe, mango, kiwi, blueberries, or blackberries when desired.
  5. Always cut grapes according to the age of the children and applicable school safety policies.
