Description
Creamy, cheesy smothered chicken inspired by Texas Roadhouse, made with tender chicken breasts, a savory garlic sauce, and melted Jack cheese for an easy restaurant-style dinner at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded Jack cheese
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
- Paprika, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken for about 5 minutes per side until golden.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth, scraping the browned bits from the pan, then stir in the sour cream.
- Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Top each chicken breast with shredded Jack cheese and transfer the skillet to the oven.
- Bake for about 15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and paprika before serving.
Notes
- For a mushroom and onion version, sauté sliced mushrooms or onions before adding the garlic.
- Use freshly shredded Jack cheese for smoother melting.
- Reheat leftovers gently with a splash of broth to keep the sauce creamy.
