Description

A simple and comforting 5-ingredient Southern banana cobbler with a crispy buttery crust and sweet gooey bananas, perfect for family gatherings and easy dessert cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium ripe bananas
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Butter or nonstick spray, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Peel and mash the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl with a fork until mostly smooth with a few small lumps.
  3. Melt the butter and let it cool slightly. Pour it over the mashed bananas, then add the milk and stir to combine.
  4. Sprinkle the sugar and flour over the banana mixture. Stir gently with a whisk or fork until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden brown, the edges are bubbly, and the center is set.
  7. Let the cobbler cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  1. Do not overmix the batter, because too much stirring can make the cobbler tough.
  2. Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest flavor and softest texture.
  3. Melt the butter slowly and let it cool slightly before mixing.
  4. Let the cobbler cool for at least 10 minutes before serving so the filling can thicken.
  5. Tent with foil if the edges brown too quickly.
  6. Adjust baking time if using a different size baking dish.
