Description

Strawberry Heaven Dessert is a light, creamy layered dessert made with angel food cake, whipped topping, sweetened cream cheese, and fresh strawberries in a homemade glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 angel food cake, torn into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 (16-ounce) container Cool Whip, divided
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 (3-ounce) package strawberry Jell-O
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the fresh strawberries and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, strawberry Jell-O, lemon juice, and water.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture boils and thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and allow the glaze to cool slightly.
  5. Fold the sliced strawberries gently into the cooled glaze.
  6. In a large bowl mix angel food cake pieces with 2 cups of Cool Whip.
  7. Press the cake mixture evenly into a 9×13-inch baking dish to form the base.
  8. In another bowl beat softened cream cheese with remaining sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Fold in the remaining Cool Whip until fully combined.
  10. Spread the cream mixture evenly over the cake layer.
  11. Pour the strawberry glaze mixture over the cream layer and spread evenly.
  12. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  1. Allow the glaze to cool slightly before adding strawberries to maintain texture.
  2. Chill for the full recommended time for clean slices.
  3. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  4. Avoid freezing as texture may change.
