Ingredients
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 packet active dry yeast
-
1/4 cup sugar
-
1/2 cup warm milk
-
1/4 cup butter (melted)
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 cup warm water
-
1 egg (optional)
Instructions
-
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
-
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and warm milk. Stir until dough forms.
-
Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
-
Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough. Divide it into 12 equal portions and shape them into balls. Place them on a greased baking pan.
-
Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
-
Finish: Brush with melted butter for a soft, golden finish.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can use milk instead of water to activate the yeast.
If you prefer smaller rolls, divide the dough into 16 portions instead of 12.
You can freeze the rolls for later. Just bake them, cool, and store in a freezer-safe bag.
