Description

The Best Peach Cobbler is a warm American dessert made with juicy peaches and a buttery sugar-cookie-style crust that bakes golden and tender.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups freshly sliced peaches, or drained canned peaches
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for the peaches
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, for the topping
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Tiny pinch of salt
  • Pinch of nutmeg, optional
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Nonstick spray, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 2-quart baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Spread the sliced peaches in a single even layer in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the peaches with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat 1 cup granulated sugar with the softened salted butter until combined and creamy.
  5. Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg if using, then mix until combined.
  6. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then beat just until the mixture forms a soft cookie-dough-style batter.
  7. Take small chunks of dough, flatten them with your hands, and place them across the tops of the peaches.
  8. Bake for 36 to 40 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and cooks through.
  9. Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  1. Drain canned peaches very well before using.
  2. The dough does not need to fully cover the peaches.
  3. Let the cobbler rest before serving so the filling can settle.
  4. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  5. Reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm larger portions in a 300 degrees F oven.
