Ingredients
-
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
-
1 onion (sliced)
-
1 bell pepper (sliced)
-
2 hoagie rolls

4 slices provolone or American cheese (or ¼ cup Cheez Whiz)
-
2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Garlic powder (optional)
-
Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions
-
Prepare the chicken: Slice the chicken into thin strips or small chunks. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.
-
Sauté the veggies: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook on medium heat until softened and golden.
-
Cook the chicken: In the same pan, add more oil if needed and cook the chicken until golden and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
-
Melt the cheese: Lower the heat and add cheese on top of the chicken and veggies. Cover the pan for 1-2 minutes until melted.
-
Assemble the sandwich: Toast the hoagie rolls. Add the chicken, veggies, and melted cheese to the rolls. Press gently to hold together and serve immediately.
Notes
For added crunch, use crushed croutons inside the sandwich.
Customize with different veggies like mushrooms or spinach for added flavor.
To make it spicier, add jalapeños or hot sauce.
