Description

Steak fingers are tender beef strips battered and fried until golden and crispy. A favorite comfort food, they’re perfect as a snack, appetizer, or meal. Paired with savory dipping sauces like gravy or ranch, they’re sure to satisfy your cravings for something crunchy and juicy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 to 1.5 lbs beef (cube steak or tenderized steak, thinly sliced into strips)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk (or dairy-free milk for a dairy-free version)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • Oil for frying (canola or vegetable oil)

Optional:

  • A pinch of cayenne pepper for spice

  • Dried herbs like oregano or thyme for added flavor

Instructions

  • Prep the Meat: Cut beef into strips. Pat dry with paper towels to help the coating stick.

  • Set Up Breading Stations: In one bowl, whisk eggs and milk. In another, mix flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

  • Coat the Strips: Dip each beef strip in the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture. For extra crunch, double-dip the strips.

  • Heat the Oil: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drop a little flour in; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.

  • Fry the Steak Fingers: Place the strips in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd. Fry each side for about 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.

  • Drain and Rest: Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let them rest for a minute.

Notes

Double-dipping the strips gives them a crunchier coating.

For a lighter version, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Air frying at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes is another healthier alternative.
